Ski for Free in Tahoe’s New Snow

February 6, 2014 by sdbx

Buy a Tahoe License Plate and Ski for Free

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – February 06, 2014 – The snow dances have finally paid off, so buckle up and take advantage of the Tahoe Fund’s “Plates for Powder” program. Purchase a new California or Nevada Tahoe license plate before April 1 and receive two free Alpine or Nordic lift tickets.

“It’s a simple way to make Tahoe better,” said Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “Thanks to our partnership with local resorts, you can hit the new snow and have a positive impact in the Basin.”

The funds raised through the plate sales go directly to the bi-state agencies, California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Lands. The plates support hiking and biking trails such as the Eagle Rock Trail and watershed restoration projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The Tahoe Fund, a non-profit dedicated to improving the Tahoe environment, is organizing the program on behalf of the public agencies.

The 11 resorts participating in the promotion include: Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, Heavenly Valley, Homewood, Kirkwood, Northstar California, Royal Gorge Cross Country, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Cross Country.

Current Tahoe license plate holders are also eligible for free tickets through the “Plate Spotter” program. Owners of Tahoe plates can post a photo of their Tahoe plate to the Tahoe Fund Facebook page. A winning photo is chosen bi-weekly to receive two free lift tickets from one of the participating resorts.

Information on how to purchase a plate and redeem free tickets is available at www.tahoeplates.com. The promotion is available through April 1. Some restrictions apply; visit the website for more details.

Tahoe Fund Seeks Environmental Projects to Support

January 30, 2014 by sdbx

Nonprofit Building Portfolio of Environmental Projects
for 2014 Fundraising Efforts

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – January 29, 2014 – The Tahoe Fund is actively seeking environmental improvement projects in the Tahoe Basin that will restore lake clarity, improve outdoor recreation, and build a stronger sense of stewardship in the region. The organization plans to build a portfolio of projects in need of monetary support that can attract donations from the private community of individuals, businesses and foundations. The board of directors will choose a handful of projects to be 2014 Signature Projects and the focus of the Fund’s summer fundraising activities.

“Our intent is to find funding for great projects that are really going to help restore and improve the Lake Tahoe Basin,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “Now in our third year, we are ready to open our project selection process to the entire community in hopes of building a great portfolio of projects from which our donors can choose.”

Eligible projects must be able to demonstrate that all environmental permits will be obtained, enjoy strong community support, and have other sources of funding identified. Further details can be found in the Request for Projects (RFP), available here.

Projects should be consistent with the program level priorities established as part of the 2008-2018 EIP Update. All projects must obtain an EIP number from the TRPA. With the notable exception of education/interpretation projects, the Fund will generally not include funding requests for planning, design, or other preconstruction activities, or for maintenance and monitoring of projects in its portfolios.

Founded in 2010, the organization has funded high priority watershed restoration projects such as the Blackwood Creek/Eagle Rock Trail restoration on the West Shore and the Incline/3rd Creek Restoration on the North Shore; segments of the Tahoe Bikeway in Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe; the Van-Sickle Bi-State Park in South Lake Tahoe; and the UC Davis “State of the Lake” report. The Tahoe Fund raised money for four 2013 Signature Projects that included beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park, Asian Clam control in Emerald Bay, a mile of bike trail along the West Shore, and a new bridge across Angora Creek in the Washoe Meadows State Park.

LAKE TAHOE, Cal. And Nev. – Dec 19, 2013 – Beginning today, current Lake Tahoe license plate holders are eligible to win free lift tickets through the Tahoe Fund’s “Plate Spotter” program.  Owners of Tahoe plates who post photos of their plates to the Tahoe Fund Facebook page are entered to win two free lift tickets from one of eleven participating resorts. This owner of this plate is this week’s Plate Spotter winner and will receive two tickets to Heavenly Ski Resort.

“The Plate Spotter Program is our way of showing appreciation for current Tahoe plate owners for supporting critical environmental projects in Lake Tahoe,” explains Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry.  “Our popular Plates for Powder program rewards new buyers, so we needed a way to say thanks to the folks who have already signed up to help the Lake.”

In addition to owners uploading the pictures themselves, official “spotters” in Tahoe and the Bay Area will shoot photos of plates and upload them. Plate owners should visit the Tahoe Fund Facebook page every other Thursday to see if they are the lucky winner.

Over 96% of the funds raised through the sale of Tahoe license plates support hiking and biking trails and watershed restoration projects such as the Lower Blackwood Creek Restoration, Sawmill Bike Trail and Rabe Meadow Bike Path. The Tahoe Fund, a non-profit dedicated to raising money and support for environmental improvement projects that will improve lake clarity, recreation and stewardship around the Lake, is organizing the program on behalf of the state agencies, California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Lands, who are beneficiaries of the plate fees.

Anyone who buys a Lake Tahoe plate before April 1 is eligible to receive two free lift tickets through a separate promotion called Plates for Powder. Information on the Plate Spotter and Plates for Powder programs and how to redeem free tickets is available at www.tahoeplates.com. Plate Spotting is available through March 20, 2014.

TAHOE SKI RESORTS REWARD TAHOE LICENSE PLATE BUYERS WITH FREE LIFT TICKETS

November 4, 2013 by sdbx

Popular “Plates for Powder” Program Raises Funds for Environmental Projects Around Tahoe

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – November 4, 2013 – With the weather cooling and Tahoe already receiving a few snowfalls, the Tahoe ski season is just around the corner. The Tahoe Fund is again launching the popular and successful “Plates for Powder” promotion to drive sales of Lake Tahoe license plates. From now until April 1, individuals who purchase a new Lake Tahoe license plate in either California or Nevada can receive two free lift tickets to one of the 11 Tahoe resorts participating in the program.

“With forecasts for an amazing ski season now is the time to get your free lift tickets,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “We are so thankful to our resort partners for giving free access to their world class resorts for people who step up and support Tahoe with license plate purchases.”

Over 96% of the funds raised through the plate sales go directly to the state agencies, the California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Lands, to fund hiking and biking trails and watershed restoration projects. The Tahoe Fund, a bi-state non-profit dedicated to raising money for environmental improvement projects that support lake clarity, recreation and stewardship in the Tahoe Basin, is organizing the program on behalf of the public agencies.

Current Tahoe plate owners need not be discouraged as they can win free lift tickets throughout the winter season through the “Plate Spotting” promotion. A team of Plate Spotters will photograph Tahoe plates “spotted” around Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area. These plates are then eligible for the bimonthly drawing of two lift tickets. The public is invited to spot plates and upload their own photos to the Tahoe Fund Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/tahoefund) as well.

The resorts participating in the promotion include Alpine Meadows, Heavenly Valley, Homewood, Kirkwood, Diamond Peak, Northstar California, Sierra at Tahoe, Royal Gorge Cross Country,  Squaw Valley USA, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Cross Country. The Tahoe Fund recruited Tahoe snow sport all-stars Julia Mancuso, Jeremy Jones, JT Holmes, and Daron Rahlves for an advertising campaign to promote “Plates for Powder” throughout the 2014 ski season. Information on how to purchase a plate and redeem free tickets is available at www.tahoeplates.com. The promotion is available from now until April 1. Some restrictions apply.

New Campaign Needed for Environmental Stewardship in Tahoe Region – Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee Hiring Creative Team

October 30, 2013 by sdbx

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV – Following a successful workshop with public and private organizations to address the need for a unified stewardship message in the region, the Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee is now seeking a creative team to develop a new regional stewardship campaign. The campaign will be used in regional organizations’ education, promotion and marketing materials to educate residents and visitors on how they can better take care of this extraordinary mountain environment. The RFP can be found online at http://www.tahoefund.org/stewardshipRFP.pdf.

“There was wonderful agreement in the workshop from the public and private sector about the need for one campaign,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund and Outreach Committee member. “We are hopeful to find a creative team that can build upon the workshop and develop a new stewardship brand that creates a culture of stewardship in the region that truly elevates the way people take care of our lake, streams and mountains.”

The RFP will be administered by the Tahoe Fund on behalf of the Outreach Committee and is due on November 22nd. Funding for the development of the new campaign was generously provided by the Martis Fund and the LTOC member organizations.

For more information please contact Amy Berry at aberry@tahoefund.org.

The Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee works to foster a culture of positive change in the Lake Tahoe Region by showing the beneficial impacts cooperation and collaboration can have on the region’s environment.
