TAHOE CITY Calif. (Thursday, July 8, 2015) – The Tahoe City Rotary presented a check for $5,000 to the Tahoe Fund for the Tahoe City Aquatic Invasive Weed Removal Project. The funds will be used to remove Eurasian watermilfoil at the mouth of the Tahoe City Dam and down the Truckee River. The grant award comes on the heels of a successful public forum on the issue of aquatic invasive species hosted by the two organizations in May.
“It was clear to us from the experts who joined us at the forum that these weeds are a big deal for our watershed,” said Roger Rempfer, president of the Tahoe City Rotary. “We are pleased to help with the efforts and to support the wonderful collaborative effort that is taking place to address this important issue.”
“We are very grateful to the Tahoe City Rotary for their support,” said Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “With this grant, we have now raised almost $40,000 through the generosity of the private community to help the Tahoe Resource Conservation District restore the clarity of the watershed.”
Founded in 2010, the Tahoe Fund inspires the private community to support environmental projects that will improve lake clarity, enhance recreation and inspire environmental stewardship in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Tahoe Fund donors have provided funding for more than a dozen projects including watershed restoration, new bike paths, state park improvements, and environmental education initiatives. The Tahoe Fund welcomes donations of any size to help sustain the organization and the extraordinary natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
