Tahoe Rim Trail Kiosks

Can a trail kiosk change how people experience, and care for, Tahoe’s trails? We think so!

Our partners at the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) have been updating trail kiosks at popular trailhead access points for the Tahoe Rim Trail. Starting in 2019, TRTA began planning the replacement of the 10-30 year old kiosks, many of which have bent roofs from heavy snow loads, critter-chewed supports, and brochure holders which are too small for the number of users seeking the information included.

The new kiosks are made of steel and provide a better map, acknowledge the history and legacy of the trail, utilize QR codes for information that was previously supplied in paper brochures, and provide trail accessibility information including the slope, elevation change, tread, and difficulty level. They also offer this information in English and Spanish, with a QR code option to access several other languages.

In 2025, seven new kiosks were put in at Nevada trailheads. In summer of 2026, eight more kiosks were installed on the California side, and in summer 2027, the final 7 kiosks will be installed.
