Popular “Plates for Powder” Program Raises Funds for Environmental Projects Around Tahoe

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – November 4, 2013 – With the weather cooling and Tahoe already receiving a few snowfalls, the Tahoe ski season is just around the corner. The Tahoe Fund is again launching the popular and successful “Plates for Powder” promotion to drive sales of Lake Tahoe license plates. From now until April 1, individuals who purchase a new Lake Tahoe license plate in either California or Nevada can receive two free lift tickets to one of the 11 Tahoe resorts participating in the program.

“With forecasts for an amazing ski season now is the time to get your free lift tickets,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “We are so thankful to our resort partners for giving free access to their world class resorts for people who step up and support Tahoe with license plate purchases.”

Over 96% of the funds raised through the plate sales go directly to the state agencies, the California Tahoe Conservancy and Nevada Division of State Lands, to fund hiking and biking trails and watershed restoration projects. The Tahoe Fund, a bi-state non-profit dedicated to raising money for environmental improvement projects that support lake clarity, recreation and stewardship in the Tahoe Basin, is organizing the program on behalf of the public agencies.

Current Tahoe plate owners need not be discouraged as they can win free lift tickets throughout the winter season through the “Plate Spotting” promotion. A team of Plate Spotters will photograph Tahoe plates “spotted” around Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area. These plates are then eligible for the bimonthly drawing of two lift tickets. The public is invited to spot plates and upload their own photos to the Tahoe Fund Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/tahoefund) as well.

The resorts participating in the promotion include Alpine Meadows, Heavenly Valley, Homewood, Kirkwood, Diamond Peak, Northstar California, Sierra at Tahoe, Royal Gorge Cross Country,  Squaw Valley USA, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Cross Country. The Tahoe Fund recruited Tahoe snow sport all-stars Julia Mancuso, Jeremy Jones, JT Holmes, and Daron Rahlves for an advertising campaign to promote “Plates for Powder” throughout the 2014 ski season. Information on how to purchase a plate and redeem free tickets is available at www.tahoeplates.com. The promotion is available from now until April 1. Some restrictions apply.
