LAKE TAHOE Calif. and Nev. (Tuesday, June 30, 2015) – High above Lake Tahoe at Heavenly Mountain Resort, the Tahoe Fund received a donation of $64,650 from Vail Resorts to help further its mission to restore and enhance the Lake Tahoe environment. The donation is a result of contributions from guests at Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood, who generously gifted a dollar when purchasing online lift tickets, season passes, lodging and rounds of golf during the 2014-2015 ski and ride season.
“Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood are very proud to support the Tahoe Fund in its goal of preserving and enhancing Lake Tahoe,” said Pete Sonntag, vice president and chief operating officer at Heavenly and Tahoe Fund board member. “These efforts are critical to maintaining this area as a top year-round destination for guests around the world, and we are pleased to provide a program where our guests can help in that mission.”
“The visitors to Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood all enjoy epic outdoor adventures in Tahoe,” said Cindy Gustafson, volunteer board member and chair of the Tahoe Fund development committee. “Their dollar donations and the support of Vail Resorts provide tremendous support for our efforts to preserve this extraordinary mountain environment. We are so grateful.”
Founded in 2010, the Tahoe Fund inspires the private community to support environmental projects that will improve lake clarity, enhance recreation and inspire environmental stewardship in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Tahoe Fund donors have provided funding for more than a dozen projects including watershed restoration, new bike paths, state park improvements, and environmental education initiatives.
