TAHOE FUND SUPPORTS NEW FEDERAL LAKE TAHOE RESTORATION ACT

Bill introduced by Feinstein will provide necessary support for Environmental Improvements

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. and TAHOE CITY, Calif. – Aug 1, 2013 – The Tahoe Fund today announced its support for the new Lake Tahoe Restoration Act (LTRA) introduced to the Senate by Senator Dianne Feinstein with the support of Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Senators Dean Heller and Barbara Boxer. LTRA calls for $415 million dollars over a ten -year period to support critical environmental improvements around the Basin.

“LTRA 2013 recognizes the important work that must be done to continue to protect this incredible national treasure,” said Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “The private community will be inspired to support these efforts that ensure the long-term sustainability of Lake Tahoe”

The Tahoe Fund is the first and only nonprofit in the Tahoe Basin dedicated to raising private support and dollars to support environmental improvements. Started in 2010, the Fund collaborates with the public agencies in the Basin to develop strong public-private partnerships that will help to restore the Lake’s famed clarity, improve outdoor recreation and build a stronger sense of environmental stewardship in the Basin.

TAHOE FUND NAMES TIMOTHY CASHMAN BOARD CHAIR

Bill Rock of Northstar California and Scott Gillespie of Sandbox Studio Join the Board

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – June 17, 2013 –

The Tahoe Fund, the first and only nonprofit in the Tahoe Basin dedicated to raising money for environmental improvement projects, today announced the appointment of Timothy Cashman as chair of the board of directors. Now entering its third year in service to the Tahoe environment, the organization also announced the appointments of Founders Circle donors Bill Rock, COO of Northstar California, and Scott Gillespie, principal of Sandbox Studio, to its board of directors. The bi-state organization is focused on restoring the Lake’s famed clarity, improving recreation and building a strong sense of environmental stewardship in the Basin. Cashman takes over as chair from Cindy Gustafson, who will remain a board member of the organization.

Cashman is involved in the Nevada and Utah Harley Davidson dealerships and currently serves on the governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. He is also on the board of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Taxpayers Association and other business and community organizations.

Bill Rock, COO of Northstar California, brings a focus on environmental innovation and community involvement to the Fund. During his vast ski industry career, Rock has been involved in groundbreaking habitat management planning. Vail Resorts, owner of Northstar California, has been a supporter of the Tahoe Fund since inception, raising more than $45,000 annually through dollar donations from their guests.

Scott Gillespie is an award-winning designer of homes in the Tahoe region. He has designed more than 120 homes in the Tahoe and Truckee region, and was recently the recipient of a TRPA “Best in the Basin” award. A resident of the area for nearly 20 years, Gillespie is passionate about Tahoe and the work the Tahoe Fund is doing to improve the Lake’s clarity and recreational opportunities.

Founded in 2010, the organization through its generous donors has funded two high priority watershed restoration projects, the Blackwood Creek/Eagle Rock Trail restoration on the West Shore and the Incline/3rd Creek Restoration on the North Shore; segments of the Tahoe Bikeway in Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe; the Van-Sickle Bi-State Park in South Lake Tahoe; and the UC Davis “State of the Lake” report.

The Tahoe Fund is currently raising money for four 2013 Signature Projects that include beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park, Asian Clam control in Emerald Bay, a mile of bike trail along the West Shore, and a new bridge across Angora Creek in the Washoe Meadows State Park. In addition, the Tahoe Fund is hosting its 3rd Annual Founders Circle Summer Dinner on August 18th as it actively seeks Founders Circle donors to meet a $1,000,000 fundraising goal. Nonprofit Seeks Private Donations to Help Restore Lake Clarity and Improve Recreation

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – June 10, 2013 – The Tahoe Fund is kicking off its 2013 fundraising season with the announcement of four 2013 Signature Projects that will help restore lake clarity and improve recreation in the Basin. The projects include beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park, Asian Clam control in Emerald Bay, a mile of bike trail along the West Shore, and a new bridge across Angora Creek in the Washoe Meadows State Park. “We are excited to connect with so many of those passionate about improving the Tahoe environment,” said Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “Through the generosity of our donors, we have had great success getting important projects funded and in the ground. Tahoe Fund Organizing Sponsor of 2013 Lake Tahoe Summit

Since the first Presidential Forum in 1997, federal, state and local leaders have come together to discuss the importance of protecting and restoring Lake Tahoe.  In 1997, then-Vice President Gore was instrumental in gathering stakeholders and bringing much needed attention to the problems facing the Lake Tahoe Basin. We are honored to welcome him back this year to discuss A Clean Lake Legacy: Preserving Tahoe and the Environment for Future Generations.

Please join us on August 19th for the 17th Annual Lake Tahoe Summit hosted by Senator Harry Reid at Sand Harbor State Park on the East Shore of Nevada. Check-in begins at 9am and the event commences at 10am.

With limited parking at Sand Harbor, we recommend you ride the bus to the Tahoe Summit. The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is offering complimentary service from both North and South Shore. It’s the no-hassle way to get to Sand Harbor.

Take the East Shore Express – from Incline Village

Complimentary shuttle bus service starts at 9am from the Old Elementary School on the corner of Highway 28 and Southwood Blvd in Incline Village (771 Southwood Blvd). You can take the 9:00am or 9:20am bus to Sand Harbor.

Take the Tahoe Transportation District Shuttle – from Stateline, NV

For those of you traveling from the South Shore and interested in riding TTD’s complimentary shuttle, RSVP by emailing RSVP@EastShoreExpress.com . Buses will depart from the Kingsbury Transit Center located at 169 Highway 50 in Stateline, NV (across  from Lakeside Inn) with two departures at 8:15am and 8:30am. Allow 45 minutes to get to Sand Harbor. Please RSVP by noon on August 16th so TTD can be sure there’s room for everyone. The Summit is once again outside, so please dress appropriately for a summer morning on the East Shore.

TAHOE FUND LAUNCHES FREE TAHOE BEACHES APP

New Smartphone App Helps Visitors Research & Discover More Than 50 Tahoe Beaches

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – June 10, 2013 – With summer approaching, the Tahoe Fund, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to preserving and improving the Tahoe environment, today announced the launch of the Tahoe Beaches App to help more than 2 million Tahoe visitors find their way to the perfect beach outing on the public shores of Lake Tahoe. The app will also bring environmental benefits, helping to allow a more even flow of visitors to all beaches.

The app, available in iTunes and Google Play, allows visitors to plan their Tahoe experience with images and details about beach amenities, including barbeques, boat rentals, pet restrictions, and public transportation. With more than 50 public beaches, the app allows users to plan their Tahoe experience from home or while traveling around the Lake. Twitter feeds enable real time information from the public agencies managing the beaches.  Users can post their favorite beaches to Facebook and invite family and friends to join them. The app also includes important stewardship information to help beach goers take care of the environment.

“On a hot summer day there is no better place to be than in the Lake, but finding the right beach to fit your desired experience isn’t always easy,” according to Tahoe Fund CEO Amy Berry. “With the Tahoe Beaches App more people will be able to find their way to the crystal blue waters of Tahoe while reducing the environmental damage of overcrowding .”

The Tahoe Beaches App was developed by the Tahoe Fund and co-funded by the California Tahoe Conservancy through the Lake Tahoe License Plate Program.  Seven public agencies collaborated to develop the app, seamlessly integrating public beach information across their organizations to get information to their users. The partners include: California Tahoe Conservancy, California State Parks, Tahoe City PUD, North Tahoe PUD, Nevada Division of State Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, and Tahoe Transportation District.

“The new app also showcases our continuing major investments in improving public access to Lake Tahoe,” said Patrick Wright, Executive Director of the Tahoe Conservancy.   “Visitors can now enjoy over 34 miles of lakefront parks, up from just 14 miles in 1971.”

The Tahoe Beaches App is available on both Apple and Android phones and is available for free in their respective App Stores. To learn more or to download the app, please visit www.tahoepublicbeaches.com.
