Donations made at checkout add up to major contributions to the nonprofit
Shoppers at Raley’s in South Lake Tahoe have the opportunity to give back to Lake Tahoe when buying their groceries. Over the last seven years, donations made by customers at checkout have added up to over $345,000 for the Tahoe Fund to help improve the local environment.
“While it may not seem like much to add a little something extra for the Tahoe Fund, these donations add up in a major way,” said Amy Berry, Tahoe Fund CEO. “These contributions have helped significant projects like the demolition of the former Motel 6 building, scuba cleanups of Tahoe’s shoreline, new hiking trails, and so much more. This spirit of philanthropy is making a real difference, right here in the community.”
This partnership is part of the Tahoe Fund’s $1 for Tahoe program. Created to offer a simple way for those who love Tahoe to help make it even better, $1 for Tahoe raises money to restore and improve the environment and enhance recreational opportunities through guest donations.
These contributions support projects that help reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire, improve lake clarity, and make it easier to get around, enjoy, and take care of Lake Tahoe. Some of the projects that benefit include major restoration efforts in the Upper Truckee River watershed, the site of the former Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe. Funds are also supporting innovative pilots to prepare communities for wildfire, and the next section of the East Shore Trail. To learn more about these projects, visit: www.tahoefund.org.
In addition to participating in the Tahoe Fund’s $1 for Tahoe program, the Raley’s in Incline Village was the first major Tahoe area business to encourage their customers not to buy single-use water bottles. Instead, the grocer made DRINK TAHOE TAP branded reusable Klean Kanteen water bottles available for purchase and incorporated signage from the Take Care Tahoe campaign to help educate customers about the impacts of single-use and microplastics on the environment and specifically the Lake Tahoe Watershed.
