Fire Smart Community Pilot
The Fire Smart Community Pilot program launched in spring 2025 to create more fire-ready communities in Tahoe. By bringing together new technologies, local fire districts, willing homeowners associations and wildfire researchers, these pilots are helping to identify, prioritize and implement the mitigations that matter most for preparing communities for potential wildfire.
Spearheaded by a collective of organizations and tech companies working on wildfire resilience, the pilots not only are transforming neighborhoods in Tahoe, they are also demonstrating how comprehensive wildfire defense can be implemented and replicated across the West.
The pilots are designed to support residents with expert guidance, tools, and resources to make homes, streets and shared spaces more fire-ready. Pilot projects are now underway in six Tahoe communities: Tyrolian Village, Incline Pines, Glenbrook, South Lake Tahoe (Gardner Mountain), Carnelian Woods, and Martis Camp.
