TAHOE FUND NAMES TIMOTHY CASHMAN BOARD CHAIR

July 17, 2013 by sdbx

Bill Rock of Northstar California and Scott Gillespie of Sandbox Studio Join the Board

TAHOE CITY, Calif. and INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – June 17, 2013 –

The Tahoe Fund, the first and only nonprofit in the Tahoe Basin dedicated to raising money for environmental improvement projects, today announced the appointment of Timothy Cashman as chair of the board of directors. Now entering its third year in service to the Tahoe environment, the organization also announced the appointments of Founders Circle donors Bill Rock, COO of Northstar California, and Scott Gillespie, principal of Sandbox Studio, to its board of directors. The bi-state organization is focused on restoring the Lake’s famed clarity, improving recreation and building a strong sense of environmental stewardship in the Basin. Cashman takes over as chair from Cindy Gustafson, who will remain a board member of the organization.

Cashman is involved in the Nevada and Utah Harley Davidson dealerships and currently serves on the governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. He is also on the board of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Taxpayers Association and other business and community organizations.

Bill Rock, COO of Northstar California, brings a focus on environmental innovation and community involvement to the Fund. During his vast ski industry career, Rock has been involved in groundbreaking habitat management planning. Vail Resorts, owner of Northstar California, has been a supporter of the Tahoe Fund since inception, raising more than $45,000 annually through dollar donations from their guests.

Scott Gillespie is an award-winning designer of homes in the Tahoe region. He has designed more than 120 homes in the Tahoe and Truckee region, and was recently the recipient of a TRPA “Best in the Basin” award. A resident of the area for nearly 20 years, Gillespie is passionate about Tahoe and the work the Tahoe Fund is doing to improve the Lake’s clarity and recreational opportunities.

Founded in 2010, the organization through its generous donors has funded two high priority watershed restoration projects, the Blackwood Creek/Eagle Rock Trail restoration on the West Shore and the Incline/3rd Creek Restoration on the North Shore; segments of the Tahoe Bikeway in Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe; the Van-Sickle Bi-State Park in South Lake Tahoe; and the UC Davis “State of the Lake” report.

The Tahoe Fund is currently raising money for four 2013 Signature Projects that include beach improvements at Sand Harbor State Park, Asian Clam control in Emerald Bay, a mile of bike trail along the West Shore, and a new bridge across Angora Creek in the Washoe Meadows State Park. In addition, the Tahoe Fund is hosting its 3rd Annual Founders Circle Summer Dinner on August 18th as it actively seeks Founders Circle donors to meet a $1,000,000 fundraising goal.
