Maximize Your Impact: Give from Your IRA
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), also known as an IRA Charitable Rollover, can be a smart and tax-efficient way to support our work.
What is a QCD?
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift of up to $105,000 per year directly from your traditional IRA to the Tahoe Fund.
The Benefits for You
QCDs offer a powerful combination of charitable support and personal tax savings:
- Tax-Free Giving: The gift is excluded from your taxable income. This is especially valuable if you take the standard deduction and can’t itemize your charitable gifts.
- Satisfy Your RMD: If you are age 73 or older, the QCD counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, helping you meet your withdrawal requirement without increasing your income tax liability.
- Keep Your Income Lower: By transferring the funds directly, you can lower your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), which can help reduce the taxability of Social Security benefits and prevent phase-outs of other tax credits.
How to Make a QCD Gift (3 Simple Steps)
The funds must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to Tahoe Fund to qualify as a tax-free QCD.
- Contact Your IRA Custodian: Call your IRA administrator (e.g., Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab) or log into your online account.
- Request a Direct Transfer: Instruct your custodian to transfer a specific dollar amount directly from your IRA to our organization.
- Ensure Donor Identification: Ask your custodian to include your full name and mailing address in the memo or on the transmittal letter. This is crucial so we can properly acknowledge your generous gift!
