On Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 we livestreamed an ROV’s journey to the bottom of Lake Tahoe! Thanks to a partnership with Restoring the Lake Depths Foundation, we were able to give everyone the opportunity to watch in real time as this custom-made ROV reached a depth of 1,574 feet.
While the ROV descended, Lindsay Kopf, founder and executive director of Restoring the Lake Depths Foundation highlighted the innovative technology behind the ROV, Tim Crandle, president of SeaView Systems shared more about the cutting-edge technology that made this journey possible and Sudeep Chandra, foundation professor of limnology at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Institute for Global Sustainability unpacked the secrets of why Tahoe’s famed waters are so clear.
